Coming from a family of dentists spanning three generations, Dr Shimone Liu developed an interest in dentistry from an early age. Growing up with a connection to the profession helped shape his appreciation for oral healthcare and the difference it can make in people’s everyday lives.
After completing a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Manipal University in India in 2023, Dr Shimone went on to pursue further studies in public health. Academic achievements during his dental studies included graduating as a gold medallist and receiving the International College of Dentists Merit Award for Best Graduate in 2022. In 2026, Dr Shimone completed a Master of Public Health at Macquarie University in Sydney and passed the Australian Dental Council examination. Contributions to several research publications have also formed part of his academic journey, reflecting an interest in the scientific and research aspects of oral healthcare.
Taking the time to listen and understand each patient’s concerns is central to the way Dr Shimone approaches dentistry. Recognising that every patient brings different experiences, questions and expectations to an appointment, the focus is on creating a comfortable environment where people feel able to discuss their dental care openly. Clear communication and thoughtful explanations are important parts of this approach, helping patients understand their treatment options and make informed decisions about their oral health.
Preventive and general dentistry form the foundation of Dr Shimone’s clinical interests, with an emphasis on supporting patients in maintaining their oral health. Surgical dental extractions and complex root canal treatment are further areas of interest, bringing together the scientific knowledge and practical skills that first attracted him to the profession. Each treatment is considered in the context of the patient’s individual oral health, clinical needs and available options.
Community involvement has also been an important part of Dr Shimone’s professional journey. Participation in community dental camps, school dental programmes and oral cancer screening initiatives has provided opportunities to contribute to oral health education and awareness beyond the dental clinic. Alongside these experiences, ongoing learning and professional development remain areas Dr Shimone values as part of his approach to dentistry.
Away from the clinic, hiking, running and playing the guitar are three of the ways Dr Shimone enjoys spending his time.
The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives is one of the aspects of dentistry Dr Shimone values most. Combining science, hands-on clinical care and genuine patient connections makes the profession particularly rewarding, especially when patients feel more comfortable and informed about their oral health. Listening to individual concerns, explaining treatment options and continuing to develop his clinical knowledge are all important parts of what Dr Shimone enjoys about being a dentist. Even small improvements in a patient’s oral health or understanding of their care can bring a sense of satisfaction to the work.
